thank you.

dears, thank you so much for the wonderful, heart-felt feedback to my last post. i was a bit reluctant to put of that out on the interwebs, but i am so glad i did.
since i last wrote, we left town for a few days. we traveled to eugene for the annual conference on public interest environmental law. i learned a lot. my brain is still wrapping itself around new theories, new technologies, and new faces. i also had a big realization about my field: there are not that many women in it. especially, those of us who have been practicing for 5 or more years. i am letting that realization sit with me for a bit, but i have a feeling it will make it into a post in the near future.
also,
after i re-established my painting groove or overcame whatever plateau i was describing in the last post, i began working my etsy shop again. and it is so much fun, too. i forgot the excitement of preparing a new listing, editing the photos, figuring out postage, and all that jazz. it's safe to say: i'm back. on that note, i've brought a few new pieces to the shop and re-listed a few that i had taken off the market for a bit. if you haven't visited my shoppe in a bit, check it out!
all love,
k

pounced! Darkroom

feast your eyes on this pounce, dears. Darkroom: Mitchell Fine Art Photography captures the way light bathes his subjects in such a captivating way. cityscapes have a soft, dreamlike quality about them and landscapes are stark, ultra-sharp. Christopher is also an award-winning cinematographer. you can check out his work in still and moving photography on his website.

dears, i cannot tell you how excited i am to begin holiday gift-giving. my theme for this year is "instant happy."my goal for each gift is that its recipient will have and instantaneous bolt of joy just by gazing upon the gift. i thought i'd give you a few examples of instant happy to illustrate this principle.

Dillon Designs' Shutterbug Ring.
{Can you imagine the smiles this ring would bring the the face of a photo-phile?}

Silver Sparrow Designs' Baby Beluga Necklace.
On the back it says "Just a little white whale on the go."
{In order to receive this little bit of instant happy in time for Christmas, place your order today.}

LaPomme's Linda, A Sleep Angel.
{This is sweetness plus love plus serenity plus pretty pretty. Perfection.}

Whippy Dipp's Creepy Crawly Madness Necklace.
{A wild & wonderful, color-heavy talisman to ward off a bad day.}

Caitlin Kuhwald's Ira Glass print.
{You know we cannot get enough of Ira at my house. Ira plus a rainbow = me over the moon.}

Mullish Muse's Karl Lagerfelt.
{Fashion-y. Felt-y. Fun-ny. Have I mentioned what a sucker for puns I am?}

LaBete Handmade's Embroidered Lion Pillow Plush Doll.
{This is the perfect antidote for a serious couch.}

Ittichips' limited edition Yeti print.
{You thought the Yeti was extinct? Not with this print hanging in your hallway.}

i'm not there.

dudes, does it seem like i'm never around anymore? i feel it too. one of my intentions for 2OO9 is to find my way back to a more balanced schedule. yes. it will happen. two steps toward making this happen have already been put in place: a) no more kid yoga for the time being and b) no wednesday night apparel design class next quarter. ( i LOVE it, but the pace of life that accompanies being gone every weeknight until 9pm is not for me anymore.)

so what have i been up to lately?

developing new work for the shop. {i LOVE to print.}
the om mini-moleskine in blue sparkles.

sewing. sewing. sewing. this is a mini-vest sample to prepare for a big vest i'm making.
last night's homework.

pounced! Norie and Lee.

darlings, at long last, i'm back from another trip pouncing. {for those of you not yet in the know about POUNCING, it is a delightful feature on Etsy that allows you to visit (pounce) on new shops or shops that have just sold items. to experience pouncing yourself, click right here.}

this trip has yielded bountiful results, including the eco-friendly stationery & design at Norie and Lee. you KNOW i love anything or anyone with a mission of making beautiful things that also respect the environment. Norie and Lee use high recycled content in their cards & envelopes, earth-friendly printing techniques and biodegradable packaging. Norie and Lee are taking it one step further and including social justice in their gig: a portion of the proceeds from holiday cards will benefit a non-profit that installs solar panels on the homes of low-income families in California. WONDERFULNESS!!
here are a few of my favorites from the Norie and Lee shop.

Sample this.

dears, i have some fun news: research & development for my line of wearables is nearing completion. i have been making samples on old clothes of mine that i can no longer stand in their current form as well as a jumbo pack of hanes tees i bought a few years back. a few of these are making their way out into the world as presents on quality control missions. my drawing teacher complimented me on one of my shirts today, which TOTALLY surprised + tickled me. do you like?
