for the good of humankind.

darlings, i sincerely urge you to check out this month's mankind mag. for a burst of the lovely, for a dash of the positive, for a remembrance of the beautiful. you all know what a fan of creator & editor erin loechner i am, and her letter to readers in this month's mag really touched me. she writes, "There is so much beauty in this world. There really is. It is my hope that we can see the pretty things around us amidst the ugly. I feel so blessed to live in a land of opportunity. Of spirit. Of courage, hope and integrity."

amen, sister.

scenes from the weekend. and a work-in-progress. 500th post celebration!

dear-hearts, hello again!
i am back to relay some of the wonderful goings on of our weekend escape to portland. sigh. our visits to portland are always such happy times. this weekend, we celebrated an upcoming wedding at a fun party. our hosts had amazing taste in wine, food and art: immediately upon walking into their condo, i spied a whole series of prints by one of my favorite creative souls: Friedensreich Hundertwasser! we had a positively delightful time reconnecting with old friends at the party and meeting new ones as well.
party.even the condos are green in portland.

bk & i stayed with our gracious friends zephyr, Apollo & zoe. we stayed...er... lived there when we first moved back to the northwest from denver, and bk & had a big laugh when we realized that we've slept in the guest room there more than anywhere else (besides home) over the last seven years. so sweet they are to put up with us.

i met the lovely & amazing mrs. french of bliss! what a sweet soul. i can't wait until we move back to portland and can have her over for potlucks and the such. {i have ridiculous allergic reactions to Apollo--he's a cat; hence, my eyes look puffy beyond belief.}
we met on the internet.
now i'm back to work on my big piece... here's a sneak peek. she should be finished by week's end.

it's monday again.

the sun shines on seattle today.

i rode the train to portland this weekend to see my dear girlfriends. my girlfriends gave me so many smiles and memories. they are such an amazing lot of ladies. they make me happy & homesick.

i made new friends on the trains: a group of tourists from japan (they gave me gifts and smiles); an art studio moving from new york (she reminded me of the smile i felt inside when i arrived in portland for the first time); a young man who was drunk and a little mentally ill (he told me that he saw my soul from across the room).

i missed my husband. how i got so lucky to have found him, i'll never know.

happy monday, dear-hearts.

thirty years ago today...

81/365. 3-0 is a magic number.
my mama was mowing the lawn. nine months pregnant with child. a few hours later, this little whale-lover boogied on into the world.

i'm so blessed to have all of you in my life. thank you for making the first thirty years so FABULOUS. life just gets better with each year. let's all have a good laugh at my crazy hair-cuts over the years!! xoxox

i'm going to enjoy the sun today, hit the beach, eat white cake with white frosting, and chill with my family. love. and peace. to you!

On FIRE!! Yokoo.

Darlings, I know I've mentioned Yokoo and her fabulous work in the past, but I have never actually treated you to your own viewing of her work. Yokoo and I are friends from ye olde internet; we met on the wardrobe_remix circuit to be exact. Yokoo has mad style to be sure, and she has talent galore in the fiber, photographic and musical arts. Check her out!

A striking photo from Yokoo's playground series.

Her etsy shop is right here. In her shop, you can find gorgeous, hand-knit scarves (like this one, the sweet pea warmer), photographic art and vintage clothing.

As if the sweet pea warmer weren't gorgeous enough itself, the photo itself is a work of art. Seriously, dear-hearts. Could this gal get anymore fabulous?

*Stars in my eyes.

Dears,

I have such talented friends, and I just want to tell you all about them and the wonderfully creative work they are doing! One of these talented souls is dear Ambika of (into) the Fray. Ambika creates the most amazing jewelry and accessories, that I have to hold myself back from buying up everything anytime she lists a new item in her etsy shop (see yesterday's post about my quest to live more simply). So, when I had a few birthday gifts to procure, I leaped at the chance to buy some lovely baubles from Ambika's shop. I have been dying to share these next beauties with you, but since I bought them as gifts for two of my dearest friends, I had to keep the loveliness to myself for awhile. Without further ado, here are two things I bought that I absolutely love.

These Ambrosia earrings are lovely.

And the Sole Ciela earrings are the type I could wear every single day and to fancy events!

{I'm so glad I got to share these with you.}

You can visit Ambika's shop right here.
