living life through all five senses.

darlings, you know that mr. loves whales and i are committed to living life on foot and on bike since we left colorado. part of what i love about traveling like a luddite is fully being where the road takes me. sometimes, i do catch myself drifting into thoughts completely unrelated to what i'm seeing, hearing, feeling and (sometimes to my chagrin) smelling, but all it takes is a light whisper of breeze or mist on my face to bring me back into the now. (that and it is not so safe to let the mind wander while biking in downtown traffic. eeek.)
stems.
what are some of the marvellous things you *sense* in your part of the world?

just because...

i finished up the term this morning, darlings. my portfolio review went swimmingly. i earned an "a" in drawing. on the flip side, i may have failed my apparel design class. long boring story, i thought i had another week to finish the final project. no biggie, though. {people who knew me in law school, can you believe i just wrote that much less think it?!} i learned how to sew... REALLY sew... and that was my intention.

now, just for the fun of it, i'll post a few photos of shoes i wear on occasion and other things i happen to enjoy looking at in my newly acquired bit of free time.

and i'm off to decorate for the holidays!
peace. & LOVE.

sunshine and roses.

i tried to make pudding last night using rice milk.
now i have pudding juice.
apparently, rice milk lacks the coagulants of cow milk.

it's sunny today in seattle.

The workshop.

Dears, Hope you had a lovely weekend! I made a batch of peanut butter bon-bons that completely ruined my hopes of being a macrobiotic wonder by the new year. Oh well. There is always tomorrow. Also, I worked both Saturday and Sunday at bringing some new prints to the shoppe. Keep your eyes peeled for a return of the brollies and going on fabulous sometime this week.

Although I have been completely consumed by making my holiday gifts, I did manage to finish this piece today. It is five by seven inches of watercolor, ink and thread-y goodness. It's going up for sale in the shoppe for $30.

Going on fabulous.

Dear-hearts,
This is the piece I was talking about yesterday. The title refers to that lovely musical "The Sound of Music." Remember, where Liesel and Rolf are in the gazebo dancing around in the rainstorm? This piece just makes me want to sing "you are wonderful, going on fabulous..." to anyone who happens to look at or read this blog. (hi mom & dad!) Goodness, am I always like this? All sunshine and roses? No no, but why not is the real question!

More about the piece: It is ink and watercolor on gesso-primed paper. The colors are crazy-vibrant: like a neon eye-patch. It will be in the shop just as soon as I get her scanned.

Soft shoe.

soft shoe

I know. The scanner is still tormenting me. Here is a new drawing-painting of a jazz shoe I'm lusting after.

Punked out.

Another taste of the week of crazy inspiration. I am still marvelling at all the wonderful gems that appeared on the paper, canvas, table last week when I gave myself the time to just play in my studio.

the love

All hyped out.

the hype

I have been dying to share some new work with you, my dear dear readers. My scanner situation is really testing my ability to cultivate patience and gratitude for the scanning capabilities I do have, so I just keep practicing every day!

Like I mentioned last week, I had some crazy sparks of inspiration and created some new pieces (and beginnings to new pieces) that make me so so happy. Here is part of one. Let me know what you think.

Shoe obsession, part 2

Another little sketch of some shoes. I'm not quite as in love with this particular pair, but they made for a fun Friday night exercise.

Shoe lust

Since I started running the whole KellyLovesWhales she-bang from the house, I tend to wear less formal clothes than I did when I worked, for example, at legal aid. Yes please.

These days, I find myself barefoot most of the time. Every now and again, I wear something office-worthy and throw on a pair of decent shoes for good measure. Although I appreciate clothes as much as the next horse, I have a special reverence for shoes and the people who make them for me. How much work must go into one pair of nice shoes! It is amazing. Craftship inspires me. Shoes are such amazing little creatures.

I found this spiffy pair in the urban outfitters catalogue that randomly showed up at my door last week. They are loverly.
