new work. cute overload. good things.

i see you.

darlings, i've just spent the afternoon drawing in drippy ink and painting a few new pieces for the bedroom. i love to make things. lately, my schedule has been so hectic that the few hours of un-interrupted time for creating felt like a gift from the universe. so THANK YOU universe!

new piece for the bedroom.

also, while i was away last weekend, my darling mister scanned a stack of photos of shyla as a puppy. i think they are both too cute for words.

happy happy monday.

Dears, I hope you had a truly glorious weekend. It was amazingly beautiful here, and I got to do all of the things I love-- ride bikes, listen to live music, hike with my dog, make art, do yoga, watch movies, eat yummy food-- all good things.

I've mentioned the Avett Brothers before. BK is friends with their bassist Bob Crawford from years ago on Phish tour, and I can't say enough wonderful things about them. They are like pure magic for the ears. And the energy of their shows is nothing short of breathtaking. AND...they are getting so famous! We barely squeezed into the venue they played this weekend.

LOVE for my ears.

I am really digging on Dengue Fever these days. Here is a review of their latest album on NPR. Rad.

Friday loveliness.

My dears, I am still listening to I am Robot & Proud. So wonderful. Pure loveliness. Putting on the album "The Electricity in Your House wants to Sing" is like instant happy for me. I just can't keep myself from putting it on ALL THE TIME! This is what total bliss sounds like to me.

And isn't this video pure & simple wonderfulness? It was made by Ari Huang for a film class. I'm trying to find out more about him.

New soul.

Dears, I just saw this over at Sparkletopia (could Sparkletopia be any more awesome?? seriously.) and instantly fell in love with this tune. Am I the last girl on earth to hear about Yael Naim? She's amazing! Check it.

Happy Monday!

The needle.

I just love the space needle. It is so 1950s-in the year 2000 we'll all be driving hovercrafts and having martinis in the sky. This aesthetic thrills me to no end. We sat under the needle all day on Saturday, so I got to spend a lot of time thinking about how much I love it. When I wasn't dancing my face of to the music of the wonderfully talented and gorgeous Avett Brothers, that is.

Music is a source of much inspiration. Varied inspiration. The music I listen to is both a cause and effect of my art, meaning sometimes I choose the music based on what I'm working on and sometimes the art I make is heavily influenced by the music I'm already listening to at the time.

LOVING RIGHT NOW: Antibalas, Stevie Wonder, the Avett Brothers (obviously), Rodrigo y Gabriela (we saw them on Saturday, too), Particle (pre-2006) and Groundation.

Eye

The eyeball and all of its colorful incarnations inspired me to sketch this little eye yesterday afternoon.
