celebrate where you have been.

My dears, A hint of autumn came in through my bedroom window last night crisp and cool. The morning clouds and chill burned off to reveal an amazingly beautiful day. I simply adore this time of year: the nights are made for sleeping and the days are the perfect mix of nostalgia and promise.
One practice I have been keen on cultivating the last few years is mapping out my goals and then acknowledging my accomplishments. I hope you do the same, as it is a wonderful way to stay in touch with living your dreams *right* now. Before I share my goals for the next few months with you (and with myself, quite honestly), it seemed appropriate to celebrate all of the sweetness this summer brought:

  • Jumped off the end of the dock at dawn;

  • My painting Mulhadhara was featured in a group gallery show;

  • Launched my new Etsy shop (yay!);

  • BK and I had many weekends away together: weddings in the gorge and on mt. hood, backpacking & hiking, swimming & picnicking;

  • We schnuggled our nieces & nephew in St. Louis;

  • Learned enough CSS & html to be dangerous (i.e., the re-designed site launch is imminent),

  • My yoga practice continued to grow in its sweetness, strength & surrender,

  • My yoga teaching practice blossomed as I started podcasting and taking on new classes,

  • My art+friend community is thriving,

  • Painting continues to be a source of pure joy,

  • I CONNECTED people in ways that were so important to me,

  • I started posting tutorials,

  • Small, but significant victory at my job-job,

  • SPANISH! (I love it!),

  • I honestly believe I was of service to others this summer, through yoga, art, fashion, being.

Also, my hair is the longest it has ever been. It has been my goal for the past year to grow my hair really long. Now, I'm thinking of cutting it short again!

That was this summer.

What are you celebrating as the seasons change?

peace. & LOVE. always.

Thank you.

Dear-ones,
I apologize for the light posting this week. It is crazy-hot in Seattle right now, and I've been keeping the computer off to save on power consumption. {Not that I'm complaining about beach days and ice-cold showers. I *love* summer.}

July brought some amazing changes: the opening of my new shop, the launch of my podcast, the real start of summer for us. I am truly grateful for all of the growth here {inner & outer} and feel blessed to share it with you here on this blog. You are amazing! Also, I have been truly blessed with some wonderful press this month. Without further ado, I'd like to take this opportunity to say "Thank you"! Also, please check out these wonderful sites by clicking the links below. {If you feature me on you blog or site or in print, please do let me know so that I can show you gratitude in my now-monthly "thank you" post. kelly {at} kellyloveswhales {dot} com }

i'm moved. i'm proud. i'm humbled.

yes we can.
yes we did.
yes we will.

my dears, i do believe that with hope, love & a pure heart, all things are possible.
i am printing and framing our 44th president's acceptance speech. {you can too.}

"This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time - to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth - that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes We Can. "

remember when i featured the beautiful, inspired work of Kelly Joslyn of Mother Hen Apron Co.? well, Kelly sent me the most beautiful apron in the mail the other day, and now I can attest to how wonderful her work is in person. i really love how the fabric feels soft and sumptuous while retaining structure. the color combination is super fresh, and the cut is super chic. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. i'll be wearing it all summer!!

Equinox assignment: plant the seeds of intention.

The spring (vernal) equinox is here. I listened to this wonderful interview on Theatre of the Mind Podcast the other day and must pass it along to you both for the overall insights about Spring as the *real* new year as well as the wonderful vernal equinox meditation shared by Barbara Hand Clow.

I mentioned the Persian New Year celebration of
Nowruz the other day, and the more I think about it, it truly makes sense that the new year would come in spring. Spring is a time of renewal, rebirth (I'm thinking way beyond the Christian context here, but it definitely applies), awakening after the long, dark, sleepy winter (much like savasana-corpse pose- in yoga), where we have been preparing for our re-incarnation in spring so to speak.

The meditation suggested by Barbara Hand Clow is a real gem, it's all about manifesting your intentions for the new year.

What are your big three intentions for this year? I'm going to love big, live on my art and give the yoga away.

*REALLY*

Dear friends, Since I was out of town on the eve of giving thanks and couldn't post then, I will let you know about 5 really good things that I am oh-so thankful for right now.
1. Spending the Thanksgiving holiday with my dear friends in Portland.
2. My beautiful, sweet, snuggly and well-behaved dog.
3. Interviewing for new "day jobs." My three-ring circus (law-yoga-art) is a good mix for me, and I'm climbing the career ladder in all my endeavors.
4. My husband. A delightful, thoughtful chap.
5. The shoppe! It is keeping my spirits up even though I am sicky-sicky.
