Happy Thursday! Happy 2O2nd POST!

Dear-hearts,

Somehow, we slipped right by the 2OOth kelly LOVES whales post without any sort of celebration. Oh dear. I must remedy that immediately! Unfortunately, I don't have any bubbly on ice to share with you.
Care for a banana instead?

Or some garlic?

I say, it's all about celebrating the stops along the way. Don't you? (For a trip down memory lane (post numero uno), click here.)

The piece up top is a brand new painting. Very juicy, if you ask me! I was listening to Feist sing her heart out while I painted it. Sometimes she sounds so sad, maybe I painted this flower to cheer her up a bit.

Peace.

I'm having slight technical challenges with my scanner. This is just a partial scan of the complete piece, Above as Below. Enjoy!

Ferns

We have a troop of lovely ferns growing in the side garden. They looked so happy in the rain.

Snake Plant

The snake plant who lives in our salon-parlor-living room fascinates me. It grows the craziest little mushrooms. The mushrooms look like Peeps.

Inspiration Monday

flowers and vases: Accents Galleries: dominomag.com

Flowers, botanicals in general really, have been inspiring me so much this sprimmer (spring + summer). I love the idea of flowers everywhere in a house: fresh, dried, in bowls, in vases, in paintings on the wall. Flowers invoke a feeling of lush contentment, of abundance, of true care of all of the senses.

Poppy, dancer and sky

Last night, I accomplished quite a bit of painting in the hours between work, dinner and settling down with a book.

I have been love love loving poppies these days. While I truly cannot stand lemony, poppy seed treats, the flower itself is multi-dimensional. The colors are deeper than I ever remember noticing before. The texture is always a bit of a surprise. They are everywhere right now, big floppy-head Asian poppies and the smaller, more refined looking orangey California variety.

The moon is a constant source of inspiration. If it weren't for a bad case of claustrophobia, I might consider flying their someday.

Lily in Hand

The mini-watercolors continue, though I did clear enough space in the studio to set up my easel yesterday. Perhaps a mini-oil will appear on this page in a few weeks. I hope so. This little mini is called Lily in Hand, say hello to her.
Peace.

Oh. I thought it might be fun to also publish a little self-portrait for any one who visits Kelly Loves Whales. It, too, is mini.

June 21 2007 leaf

Watercolor intrigues me as a method of sketching and you will likely see more watercolor mini-paintings in the weeks to come. The original painting is 3''* 3 3/4'' with a white border.
